The Augmented and Virtual Reality Laboratory (AVR Lab) is a research laboratory of the Department of Engineering for Innovation of the University of Salento (Italy).
The research activities are mainly focused on Virtual and Augmented Reality Technologies in medicine and surgery, cultural heritage and education.
The AVR Lab is also engaged in the design and development of advanced human-machine interfaces.
It has developed applications of Augmented Reality technology for cultural heritage: enhancement of archaeological areas, virtual tours, 3D edutainment programs for students on cultural sites.
The AVR Lab is one of the founding members of the European Association of Virtual Reality (EuroVR) and annually organizes, in collaboration with the Italian Movement of Modeling and Simulation (MIMOS), the International Conference on Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality and Computer Graphics (Salento AVR), which gathers the international community researchers to discuss key issues, applications and innovative trends on AVR technologies, 3D visualization and computer graphics in medicine, cultural heritage and industrial fields.
